compagnia sud costa occidentale
Adattamento e regia Emma Dante
Sicilian sud costa occidentale and director Emma Dante are back again to shake up and awe the audience at Tampere Theatre Festival. This time, the company will present Euripides’ passionate and destructive tragedy Medea.
Emma Dante’s Medea, “a barbarian woman who does not recognize any other authority but her own visceral instinct”, embarks on a quest to right the wrongs of a cowardly, male-dominated society. Medea is compelled to follow freedom as she understands it and chooses condemnation over subordination.
The well-awarded and continuously praised theatre company sud costa occidentale has stayed strictly independent. It has drawn material for Medea from Sicilian families and power structures; the powerful movement language is inspired by the busy streets and courtyards of Palermo.Durata: 1h 15minPerformed in Italian, subtitles in FinnishPhoto: Tommy Ilai
