Savonlinna Opera Festival
Giacomo Puccini: Tosca
18.7., 21.7., 24.7., 28.7., 31.7.
Introduction
One of the most popular and best-loved works in all operatic literature, Tosca owes much of its success to the highly dramatic yet lyrically beautiful themes that follow the bitter story from the first to the very last notes. The arias Recondita armonia, Vissi d’arte and E lucevan le stelle are also popular as arias on their own. The opera is about three people – the famous opera singer Floria Tosca, the painter and political dissident Cavaradossi, and the ruthless Chief of Police Baron Scarpia – caught up in a maelstrom of love, passion and politics.
