The genuine Turin opera tradition

A sensation such as this is a rare experience: Teatro Regio Torino and their premiere of the masterpiece La bohème are coming to the Opera Festival. This massively popular opera had its first performance in Turin in 1896 under the baton of Arturo Toscanini.

Leading a Bohemian life as a student in Italy himself, Puccini collected themes and ideas for music, which he managed to portray in La bohème, the story of the love between Mimì and Rodolfo. In the opera’s libretto, the Parisian winter is chilly, but at Savonlinna the company is assured of a warm welcome in what is the first performance of this work at the Festival.
